The importance of International Women's Day

Here at the Women’s Work Lab we fight for equality for mums every day - and as you might expect, International Women’s Day is a day firmly marked in our calendars. Having a global day dedicated to celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women is hugely important. The day also calls for gender parity and equality - and this is essential. We believe that all mums, regardless of their age, background or life experiences, should be able to build a financially secure future - and in doing so, they should be welcomed into a flexible and family-friendly workplace in a rewarding career. It is better for mums and it is better for employers.

To mark International Women's Day 2026, we were asked to speak at a number of events by employers and organisations who share our values. Organisations who support flexible working and who've seen themselves how much they, and society as a whole, benefits.

Rachel and Camilla at the Good Employment Charter

We were delighted to do the keynote speech at the Good Employment Charter International Women’s Day event at Bristol Beacon, hosted by the West of England Combined Authority. Our co-founders Rachel and Camilla shared the story behind WWL and it was inspiring to be part of a morning focused on practical ideas, honest conversations and collaboration across the region. Our team also ran a brilliant Employer Workshop.
Thank you to the Good Employment Charter and everyone who contributed to such an important discussion.

We also had a brilliant evening with Bristol Junior Chamber in celebration of IWD 2026 as well as fantastic events for Visit West at the Food and Drink Forum, Clarke Willmott, YTL UK Group, and Mulberry England and a Mayoral Lunch with Helen Godwin, Mayor of the West of England.

For us, International Women’s Day is a celebration of the power, strength and importance of the work of women.

Above all, these events showed us the importance of supporting each other and just how many employers, organisations and individuals are out there who really do care about supporting women and mums. And it’s not just women who care. So many of these organisations had brilliant men as allies and we value that so much. They care just as passionately about this cause.

Together, we are stronger and that’s what it’s all about.
